Mr. Lish Burgess
Assistant Principal 7th and 8th Grade

Lish Burgess is excited to serve as the 7th/8th grade assistant principal here at Oliver Middle School.  He is a native of Memphis, TN.  He is a proud graduate of Middle Tennessee State University.  He received his bachelor's degree and Master of Education degree from MTSU.  He also received an Educational Specialist degree from Bethel University.  He enjoys quality time with my family and sports.  He believes in every chair is a learner, and in every learner is a leader.

Mr. Brian Harrell
Dean of Students

Brian Harrell, Dean of Students for at Oliver Middle School and STEAM Lead. He has been in education for a total of 26 yrs. He began his career as a teacher’s assistant at Barkley Elementary and later at his alma mater of Fort Campbell High School in Ft. Campbell, Ky. He eventually moved to Stratford STEM Magnet High where he taught Exceptional Ed Science for 2yrs, Biology, AP Biology, and Interdisciplinary Science Research.

He was privileged to work alongside the Vanderbilt Center for Science Outreach to help create the curriculum for ISR. He taught at Stratford STEM Magnet High School for 15yrs where he was Freshman Academy Teacher of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Science Team Lead, NSTA Conference Co-Presenter and State Championship Track Coach. He has an Associates of Science Degree from Columbia State Community College, Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Minor in Education from Austin Peay State University, and Masters in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University. Dr. johnson

Dr. Sonya Johnson
Assistant Principal 5th & 6th Grade

Dr. Sonya Johnson is an educator in Nashville, TN and a native of Murfreesboro, TN. She has served the MNPS school district for the past 22 years as a Teacher, Numeracy Coach, and Assistant Principal. She is responsible for providing Professional development to teachers so that student achievement increases and teacher capacity is developed. A facilitator and leader in education, her peers commend her ability to develop relationships, increase student achievement, develop a positive culture in the schools, develop purposeful strategies, and lead with intentionality.

Educating children and building a foundation of knowledge with students is her passion. She is also a bestselling author of an anthology. Dr. Johnson is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, Master of Education degree in Reading, Education Specialists degree in Administration from Middle Tennessee State University. She also has an Education Specialists degree in Educational Leadership, Education Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from Carson Newman University, and has served as an adjunct professor at Nashville State.
